Baseball in the Yard

Did you know that both George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush loved baseball? George H. W. Bush was captain of the Yale Baseball Team in college and George W. Bush was once part owner of the Texas Rangers Baseball Team! Baseball itself is truly an all-American sport that has a history of uniting our great nation in times of war and great distress.

The Bush Family Home State Historic Site is hosting an event to honor the Bush’s love of baseball and the game itself and its history of unity with games, crafts, and a chance to win two different baseballs, during the hours of 10 am to 3 pm on April 12th! One baseball will be signed by the Rockhounds, Midland’s own Baseball Team. The other baseball will be signed by Texas Rangers Hall-of-Famer Ivan “Pudge” Rodriquez. The Rockhounds’ own mascot will be joining them near the end of the event at 3 pm, to meet guests and announce the winners of the baseballs! Join the Bush Family Home staff for a great time celebrating our nation’s very own sport!

“There’s going to be so much going on! Plus, there’s a chance to win two signed baseballs! It doesn’t get much better than that!” says Educator Erin Frigo.

Playtime at the Playa: How Animals Adapt

🦊 How Animals Adapt | Zoology | March 21st
Survival in the wild isn’t just about luck—animals use seasonal adaptations to thrive. From growing thicker fur in winter to migrating for food, nature is full of fascinating survival strategies. Join us as we uncover the incredible ways wildlife adjusts to changing conditions.

This season of Playtime at The Playa is all about cycles in nature—the patterns, rhythms, and systems that keep our environment thriving. From the life cycle of trees and flowers to the way animals adapt through the seasons, we’ll uncover the hidden connections that shape our world.

Each session will highlight a different cycle, whether it’s the water cycle nourishing plants, the food chain transferring energy, or the rock cycle shaping the land beneath us. By exploring these natural processes, young learners will gain a deeper understanding of how everything in nature is interconnected. By the end of the season, families will leave with cherished memories, practical sustainability skills, and a deeper appreciation for the ecosystems around them.

Program Details

Playtime at the Playa is a free, open-play program designed for young learners and their caregivers to explore, discover, and connect with nature! As part of the WILD at The Preserve outdoor education series, these sessions provide hands-on experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, and environmental stewardship.
