Baseball in the Yard

Baseball in the Yard

Did you know that both George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush loved baseball? George H. W. Bush was captain of the Yale Baseball Team in college and George W. Bush was once part owner of the Texas Rangers Baseball Team! Baseball itself is truly an all-American sport that has a history of uniting our great nation in times of war and great distress.

The Bush Family Home State Historic Site is hosting an event to honor the Bush’s love of baseball and the game itself and its history of unity with games, crafts, and a chance to win two different baseballs, during the hours of 10 am to 3 pm on April 12th! One baseball will be signed by the Rockhounds, Midland’s own Baseball Team. The other baseball will be signed by Texas Rangers Hall-of-Famer Ivan “Pudge” Rodriquez. The Rockhounds’ own mascot will be joining them near the end of the event at 3 pm, to meet guests and announce the winners of the baseballs! Join the Bush Family Home staff for a great time celebrating our nation’s very own sport!

“There’s going to be so much going on! Plus, there’s a chance to win two signed baseballs! It doesn’t get much better than that!” says Educator Erin Frigo.

Comedy Show

Erik Knowles (USMC) Erik did his first stand-up set in the fourth grade at a summer camp talent show. Even at just nine years old, his two minutes of Nickelodeon jokes killed. His next performance was in 1999 while he was in the Marine Corps. One of his superiors, noticing Erik’s ability to make his peers laugh, ordered him to do a stand-up routine at the upcoming squadron Christmas Party talent contest. Erik won the competition by making fun of the Commanding Officer. After leaving the Marine Corps in 2003, he did his first open mic at the Comedy Store in La Jolla. After that, there was no stopping him. He has performed in comedy clubs and casinos, and military bases all over California, Arizona, Nevada, and Texas. Erik’s show leaves everyone satisfied. He looks back nostalgically, at his younger days in the Marines, boot camp, partying, and even a few war stories from his time overseas in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He then contrasts that with a witty look at his adult life full of responsibilities, becoming a father, and his uncontrollable desire to challenge social stigmas. His comedy is refreshing and edgy, without being filthy. Erik Knowles fits nicely into any lineup and is a perfect fit for any venue in the country.

Erik headlines the show and shares the stage with the comedy, promotor and one of the Veterans of Comedy comedians himself, Mikey Mike on the Mike. Also featured on the card is the lovely and talented funny Ms. Demi Chang. A Veteran herself of the USMC. And is known for her comedy brand as a member of the Best Medicine Brigade!
