How To Recycle in Midland Texas
The recycling program in Midland has changed in the last year, shifting from multiple free-standing bins throughout town, to two designated locations with set hours. Admittedly, our system isn’t as convenient or extensive as those in many other cities, but it helps to keep Midland and the surrounding areas clean. Where to Recycle in Midland
There are two main recycling facilities to choose from which to choose in Midland:
Citizens Collection Station
The Citizens Collection Station is located right off the loop in Midland, and takes all of the above items, as well yard waste and furniture. They will also provide free mulch when available. Note that they are closed Sundays and Mondays, and have shortened hours on Saturdays.
Tuesday- Friday: 10 am - 6 pm
Saturday: 9 am - 2 pm
Butt’s Recycling
Located off Interstate 20 and Midkiff. This Midland recycling center also takes all of the above items.
Monday-Friday: 8 am - 4 pm
What else can be recycled?
Most of your recycling needs will be met at Midland’s two main recycling centers. However, a comprehensive list of less common recyclables including prescriptions, scrap metal, electronics, eyeglasses and tires, can be found at Keep Midland Beautiful.
Challenges and Suggestions
There is no way around it, if you are used to putting your recycling bin at the curb, and having a service collect and sort it for you, Midland’s system is going to feel positively dated. However, once you make peace with it and decide to participate, it isn’t so bad.
Depending on your space, have one or more trash bins or plastic storage containers in a convenient place to store your recyclables (garages and laundry rooms often work well).
Flatten all boxes pre-transport to minimize bulk in your vehicle.
Transfer your items to the collection station in bins, large totes, or trash bags.
Consider reducing single-use items in order to lighten your load.
Make it part of your weekly routine.
